WINNSBORO, La. - A Winnsboro woman has been hospitalized in critical condition after someone set her on fire.
According to the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office, Sharmeka Moffitt was on a walking trail in a city park when she was attacked.
At a news conference Monday, authorities confirmed Moffitt called 911 around 8 p.m. Sunday night, telling them she had been attacked and burned by three men in white hoodies.
Authorities also confirm that there were racial slurs spray-painted on her car.
She was taken to a hospital in Winnsboro and then transported to LSU hospital in Shreveport.
Police are not classifying the incident as a hate crime, and the investigation has been turned over to the Louisiana State Police.
