The weather watchers have spoken: it was chilly today!
CenLa returned to work and school Tuesday morning as the thermometer fell into the 30s. Several sites registered a light freeze this morning with the lowest temperatures coming from Leesville, Winnfield, Jena, and Bellwood with 30 degrees. The highest temperatures this morning were to the south, with Opelousas at 38 and Ville Platte, DeRidder, Eunice, and Simmesport with 37. These readings were well below the average low of 46 degrees. However, we were not close to the record low of 27 in 1911.
During the afternoon, high cloudiness increased ahead of a disturbance aloft. This, combined with a steady northerly wind, kept most max temps in the upper 50s. However, both local airports climbed to 60 degrees. The average for the date is 70.
The spell of sub-normal temperatures will continue through Friday.
