Overview:
Today, there is a LPS (Low Pressure System) over the GLR (Great Lakes Region)
with a cold front that is stretched South, through the Midwest and into the
Central Plains. There is also an extensive HPR (High Pressure Ridge) that is
anchored over the Eastern half of the Nation and expands into the Deep South,
to include Louisiana. This ridge is expected to continue influencing our
forecast through the next several days.
Discussion:
This ridge of high pressure is deep and broad. It will remain anchored over the
area through Wednesday and into Turkeyday 2012. Fair weather will continue
through the week due to this High that is centered over New England and
stretches into our area. As of now an upper-level low is dipped down over the
SE U.S. However, it ends just to our north to impact our area. As it continues
to fizzle out, it will bring little to no chance for rain as it moves very
slowly.
The surface ridge will give way to an upper-level low later in the week. This
will give us our best chance for rain (which will only be a slight chance).
For the rest of the day:
Expect plenty of sunshine, with some light In & Out cloud cover becoming
mostly sunny to partly cloudy at times. Altogether, conditions will become very
pleasant with daytime highs seasonably warm. Normally, (this time of the year)
the average high is in the upper 80's. However, we can expect highs across
Central Louisiana to climb into the upper 60's and lower 70's. Winds will start
off calm and become light and variable all day.
Overnight, expect fair to partly cloudy skies with lows becoming quite chilly
again and winds remaining near calm.
For the rest of the 7day planner:
Rain chances will stay extremely low through Thursday (Thanksgiving). Then,
this front will move through bringing a slight chance for rain on Friday and
Saturday.
As this front moves in, note that there are discrepancies between the different
models. The biggest argument at this time is timing and strength. However, we
could see a similar scenario to what played out last week. The intensity of
this system could weaken and bring little to no chance for rain . For now,
there is at least a slight chance for showers in the forecast for Friday and
Saturday.
TODAY...Expect plenty
of sunshine with a mixture of sunny skies and light clouds throughout the day.
Highs 68-74. Winds will be light and variable, becoming North around 5mph.
MONDAY NIGHT...Fair to partly cloudy skies and Chilly. Lows 43-49. Winds light and variable.
