Gene Rushing and his Louisiana College men's basketball team tipped off their season on Tuesday night in Hammond, La. with a matchup against Southeastern University.

With a team that lost a solid group of seniors from a season ago, including Jarrod Jackson, Korey Salmon, and Jelani Mitchell, the Wildcats got off to a slow start offensively against the Lions, as they fell by the final score of 91 – 49.

The Wildcats, who played another Division 1 opponent, Houston, on Monday night, got off to a slow start offensively, shooting 20 of 55 (36.4%) from the field for the night.

The Wildcats were led by Alexandria native Doc Welch, who finished with 10 points on 5 of 12 shooting to go along with 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Freshman Anthony Gaines, Jr. enjoyed a nice debut for the Wildcats, as he also finished with 10 points on 4-10 shooting from the field.

The Lions finished the game shooting 37 of 63 (58.7%) from the field, while outrebounding the Wildcats 44 to 23.

LC will look to capture their first win of the season this Saturday against former American Southwest Conference opponent Centenary in the home opener in the H.O. West Fieldhouse at 3 p.m.

The Wildcats will then begin conference play on Thursday November 29th at 7:30 p.m. in Alpine, Tx. as they take on Sul Ross State.
