Near-record warmth prevailed across central Louisiana for midweek. Afternoon highs ranged through the upper 70s, with Many reporting 79 degrees. In the Alexandria/Pineville metro area, AEX reported 77 and Esler airport maxed out at 78. The average is 60 and the record is 79 set in 1978.
Scattered rain was felt across the area as a moist flow of air from the Gulf of Mexico responded to the strong storm system out west. Oakdale airport measured 0.61 inches from a heavy shower and Esler airport counted 0.30 inches.
I expect more rain after midnight as a strong cold front plows through the area. Specifically, I expect the front to pass through between 3AM and 6AM with the potential for brief downpours and strong wind with storms that accompany the front. Windy and chilly conditions will be the rule all day Thursday. Prepare for yet another freeze Thursday night.
