By most accounts, this was the coldest morning of the young winter season, eclipsing December 13th for that honor. Fairfield in Grant Parish fell to 24 degrees for the lowest temperature. Close behind were Jena, Natchez, Miss., Anacoco, Bellwood, and Leesville with 25 degrees. A few locations failed to fall into the 20s, including Opelousas at 30 degrees and Simmesport with 32. A light east wind blowing off the Atchafalaya River kept the thermometer from cratering at Simmesport.
Temperatures tonight will be much higher as a warm transport of air from the south will hold readings in the 40s. This is in response to a significant weather system moving through the southern Rockies. This process will bring rain back to central Louisiana tonight and Friday.
I'll see you tomorrow.
