Montague Headlines 5 LC players on State Team

Posted: Updated:

The Louisiana College football program received an early Christmas present when it was announced on Christmas Eve that five members of the 2012 team, a new high water mark for the school, were named members of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Team.

Ryan Montague, in his first season as LC's primary, workhorse ball carrier, was a 1st Team selection. Senior offensive linemen Darin Moore and Jeremy Vujnovich, along with senior receiver D'Mario Parker and defensive lineman Peter "Phil" Ford were named 2nd Team selections.

Montague had one of the finest seasons in school history for a running back, as he became just the second player in Wildcat history to run for over 1,000 yards in a season, joining Wayne Davis in 2003. He finished the year with 1,110 yards on 224 carries and 13 touchdowns (which also tied Davis' school record from 2003).

Moore and Vujnovich, two mainstays on LC's offensive line for the last three seasons, finish their careers as perhaps the best guard/tackle combo in school history.

Moore, one of the nation's most feared run blockers, helped paved the way for Montague's huge season on the ground. He is also a two-time 1st Team All-ASC selection as well as a 2nd Team All-Region selection in 2012 by

Vujnovich, who LC offensive line coach Mike Richard considers the most athletic offensive lineman he's ever coached, helped give Jamie Bunting time to throw for 3,090 yards, only the third 3,000 yard passing season in school history. Vujnovich's ability to protect Bunting's blindside gave the senior quarterback time to connect with Cortland Bell, Kyle Galyon, and D'Mario Parker for over 700 yards a piece: The first trio of 700 yard receivers in school history.

Vujnovich, like more, is also a two-time 1st Team All-ASC selection and a 2ndTeam All-Region selection in 2012 by

Parker, the senior receiver from Shreveport, adds to his extensive list of postseason honors after leading the ASC with 70 catches for 1,046 yards.

Along with being a 2nd Team All-Louisiana selection, Parker was also named 1stTeam All-ASC, 1st Team All-Region, and 2nd Team All-American. He also garnered ASC Player of the Week after his school record 261 yard receiving performance against Mississippi College on November 3rd.

LC's lone defensive player on the team, Ford became the school's all-time leader in both sacks (20.5) and forced fumbled (10) in 2012 after another nice campaign.

The New Orleans native finished the season with 60 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 interception.

Louisiana Tech quarterback Colby Cameron brought home Offensive Player of the Year, while LSU linebacker Kevin Minter and UL-Monroe head coach Todd Berry were named Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
