If my forecast is correct, 2013 will begin with a washout. Several factors will combine to produce widespread and locally heavy rainfall. First, a significant amount of jet stream energy will move overhead Monday night and Tuesday. This will operate on a very moist atmosphere to produce rain. As the atmosphere becomes more unstable, a few thunderstorms will develop and bring heavy rain. General rainfall amounts of between 0.50 and 2.00 inches will occur. Peak totals may reach 3-5 inches.
With New Year's Day getting off to such a soggy start, it will be a good day to stay inside and eat black-eyed peas and cabbage.
I hope you all have a healthy and a happy 2013!
