The first full week of the new year started with a damp, frosty chill. Minimum temperatures fell into the upper 20s to the upper 30s across the KALB/NALB viewing area. Winnfield reported 27 degrees for the lowest reading. Good Earth dropped all the way down to 28 degrees. Opelousas reported 38 degrees and Eunice saw 37. The 30-year average is 38 degrees.
Afternoon highs rebounded into the 50s with increasing high cloudiness. However, Oakdale maxed out at 61 for the warmest temperature. The 30-year average is 58 degrees.
Monday's high clouds are the first sign that the weather pattern is changing again. A deep and slow-moving trough in the jet stream promises about 2-3 days of wet weather. The rain will begin Tuesday and continue off/on through Thursday morning. Peak amounts may exceed five inches. Severe weather is also a threat.
