Teen Shot In Atlanta, Suspect In Custody

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) – A 14-year-old boy was shot and a teacher was injured at a middle school in Atlanta on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Live video from NBC station WXIA-TV showed police, emergency vehicles and an ambulance around Price Middle School, which is south of downtown Atlanta.

Police told the station that both of the injured people were alert, conscious and breathing. Later the station, citing school district and fire department officials, said that a 14-year-old was shot in head. The teacher reportedly suffered injuries during the panic of the incident.

Stephen Alford, a spokesman for Atlanta Public Schools, confirmed in statement that one student suffered a gunshot wound and had been taken to Grady Hospital. There was no word on the condition of either the 14-year-old or the teacher.

One suspect was in custody, WXIA and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reported.

The school was placed in lockdown, Alford said, and all other students were safe. Students would be dismissed at their usual time, he said.
