Can you believe it? The first month of the year is already in the books and I have some details on what the weather was like.
Overall, January temperatures averaged about 3.4 degrees higher than average. A distinct period of cold, wet weather prevailed during the middle of the month. The last ten days were quite mild and was enough to swing the month's departure from normal to the positive category.
The major weather headline for the month was the high amounts of rain that fell. Using the rain gauge at KALB-TV, January 2013 was the fourth wettest January on record. The first half of the month was especially wet with flooding observed on January 9-10. In fact, that was part of a nine-day stretch of rain. Some icing was noted over western Winn, northern Natchitoches, and northern Sabine Parishes on January 15-16.
What will February bring? I may have a few things to say about that tomorrow.
