HAMMOND – Reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week Janelle Perez and the Northwestern State women's basketball team will open a three game road swing when they travel to play Southeastern Louisiana at 5:15 on Thursday .
Perez led NSU (9-13, 5-7 SLC) in two wins a week ago over Oral Roberts (67-63) and Central Arkansas (52-47). The El Paso native led the team in scoring (16.5 points per game), 3-pointers (5), and free throws (5).
Southeastern Louisiana (9-13, 2-9 SLC) suffered a 69-65 loss in the only game it played a week ago against Nicholls State.
The two teams played each other on Jan. 19 in Prather Coliseum, and the Lady Demons came out on top 64-55. NSU's Keisha Lee was the game's leading scorer with 23 points.
Lee is third in scoring this season for Northwestern State with 10.4 points per game. She follows Jasmine Upchurch who averages 12.5 and Janelle Perez who scores 10.8 points a contest.
SLU has two players that average in double-figures this season. Aja Gibson scores 10.7 points a game followed by Brandi Simmons who averages 10.6 a contest.
Both Simmons and Gibson scored 12 points the first meeting of the two programs.
NSU will travel to Nicholls State on Saturday for a 2 o'clock start, and then will travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday for a 5:00 tipoff.
