Brownwood, TX - The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats' will have to wait until Monday to learn of their NCAA Tournament fate after falling to Texas-Dallas 67-63 in Sunday's ASC Tournament Championship game.
LC, who led by as many as 13 points in the second half, and held a 60-52 lead with five minutes left in the contest, was unable to hold on, scoring only three points down the stretch, which came on a game-tying three-pointer from Kaci Willis with 41 seconds left.
The Comets grabbed a 61-60 lead at the 2:18 mark of the second half when Kimmie Grimes hit a layup to give UT-Dallas the advantage.
UT-Dallas' would then force a Shaina Howard layup with just over a minute to play. Morgan Kilgore would then hit a layup with 1:17 left to give the Comets a 63-60 lead.
Kilgore would then hit a game-winning layup with 23 seconds remaining following Willis' three-pointer to give UT-Dallas a 65-63 advantage. An LC intentional foul with five seconds left would give the Comets a chance to add on two free throws to make it a 67-63 final score.
UT-Dallas finished the day with one of the most efficient shooting days in recent history for an LC opponent, taking only 37 shots but making 24 of them for a 64.9% clip from the field.
The Comets took only three shots from beyond the arc the entire game, making one of them.
The Lady Wildcats, in comparison, shot 26-66 from the field (39.4%) and 10-30 from beyond the three-point line (33.3%).
