Missouri State scored nine runs in the first two innings that led the Bears to a 14-3 win over the Northwestern State baseball team Friday afternoon.
The second game will be played on Saturday at 7 ‘o'clock, and Sunday's game will start at 9:30 in Conway.
MSU (6-1) opened the game with three runs in the first inning on three hits and added six more in second on seven hits and an error.
Northwestern State (5-5) answered with two runs in the third, but the Bears added two more in their half of the frame.
Cort Brinson doubled to left field and advanced to third base in the top of the third inning. Toby Cornejo reached on an error and Garrett Killgore singled up the middle to score Brinson. Cornejo scored on a Will Watson single to right field.
Missouri State added to their lead with two in the seventh and one in the eighth before NSU scored the final run the ninth.
Matt Farmer reached on a single to center field and scored on a Watson double to let field.
Joey Parrack (0-2) took the loss on one-plus innings of work and allowed seven hits, seven runs, and three walks. Joseph Siegrfried, Logan Shaftner, Dillion Crain, and Nick Purdy pitched seven innings in relief and allowed eight hits and seven runs.
Nick Petree (2-0) started the gamed for the Bears and worked six innings and allowed eight hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.
Will Watson was three-of-five with two runs batted in and a double. Nathan Lyons had two hits in four at-bats.
Robert Baker (1-0, 2.79 ERA) is expected to get the start for the Demons on Saturday. Missouri State is expected to start Cody Shumacker (1-0, 1.29 ERA) on the mound.
