Everyone I talked to today remarked on how nice the weather was. It was a cold start, however, for folks as they ventured out for work and school. The coldest locations were Winnfield and Bellwood, where the thermometer dropped to 29 degrees. Other locations saw a low of only 39 degrees, including Natchez, Miss., Esler Airport, Oak Hill, and Opelousas. The 30-year average is 46 degrees.
Ample sunshine brought daytime highs into the 60s areawide. The warm spot was Many with a high of 67 degrees. Natchez, Miss. reported a high of only 55 degrees for the honor as the cool spot. The 30-year average is 68 degrees.
The resident air mass remains bone dry and it will take a while to moisten it up; therefore, I have no rain in the forecast until Sunday. At that time, a strong weather system will lift northeastward across the Great Plains. This will keep rain in the forecast both Sunday and Monday.
