PINEVILLE, LA - Louisiana College would use clutch hitting and relief pitching on Thursday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field to sweep a doubleheader against tough non-conference opponent Birmingham-Southern, winning game one 3-2 and game two by a final score of 5-4.

Birmingham-Southern struck first in game one, as a long two-run home run by Panther shortstop Taylor Bassett to dead center field gave BSC an early 2-0 lead.

The Lady Wildcats would get one back in the bottom of the first, as some heads up base running by LC senior first baseman Emily Douglas allowed her to score from second on an infield single by shortstop Meagan Pearson to make it 2-1.

LC would grab their first lead in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles from Brianna Hall and Chelsea Allen to bring the score to 3-2.

Freshman Abby Maillet would then come in relief for Lady Wildcat starting pitcher Leslie Eastham, who worked four innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out five.

Maillet would quiet BSC's bats for good the rest of the afternoon, throwing three hitless innings and allowing no runs while facing the minimum to pick up the first save of her college career.

Eastham would pick up the win to move to 6-1 on the year. Hall led LC at the plate in game one, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Panthers once again got ahead early in game two of the doubleheader, scoring three runs on three hits, highlighted by an RBI double deep to centerfield by Alyssa Statham.

The Lady Wildcats would storm back in the bottom of the fourth inning, however, as a one-out double by Meagan Pearson would set the stage for a five run frame that would put LC ahead 5-3.

Pearson would score two batters later on an Emorie Nugent RBI single. Chelsea Allen would then hit a dribbler that was misplayed by BSC second baseman Chelsea Fernandez, scoring Nugent and Jade Johnson to tie the game 3-3.

LC second baseman Stephanie Jaeger would then give the Lady Wildcats their first lead with a two-RBI single up the middle that scored Allen and Brianna Hall to put LC out front 5-3.

Madison Vige would then come on in relief of starter Nancy Bunting in the sixth inning after Bunting was hit by a line drive off the bat off BSC's Bethany Fronk in the fifth inning. Vige would earn the save, working two scoreless innings to secure the Lady Cats' doubleheader sweep.

The pair of victories moves LC's season record to 13-4, as the Lady Wildcats will head to Tyler, TX for a Saturday doubleheader with top-5 Texas-Tyler. The first of those games will begin at 2 p.m.
