Tara McKenney, Kylie Roos, Brianna Rodriguez and Cassandra Barefield of the Northwestern State softball team have all earned rankings in the most recent NCAA softball poll released Monday afternoon.
"We're really proud of the hard work and effort these ladies have been putting in this season," said head coach Donald Pickett. "Each and every one of them has made such an impact on our team success, and we're excited to see what the next few weeks have in store."
McKenney currently ranks seventh in the national poll in triples and also registers as the league category leader. The Red Oak, Texas, product has rocked six triples this season, including a lead-off triple to right field on Sunday against conference rival Stephen F. Austin.
Roos is positioned ninth in the nation with a 1.17 ERA. The senior threw five scoreless innings on Sunday to aid in the series sweep over SFA to earn her seventh shutout of the season.
Roos earned SLC Pitcher of the Week honors on April 8 after picking up two shutout wins over Central Arkansas to aid in the fourth conference series win of the season for the Lady Demons.
SLC doubles leader Rodriguez moved to 26th in the national poll as she averages .34 doubles per game. Her 14 doubles this season have lead to a Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honor for the week of March 5 when the junior recorded four multi-hit games to aid in the 5-1 performance that week, including a huge double in the fourth inning in the 6-0 win over Louisiana Tech.
Rodriguez lead off in the inning with a double to center field, essentially kick-starting a scoring frenzy as the Lady Demons picked up four runs and sealed the win.
Barefield sits 42nd in the nation in home runs as she rocked 12 over the fence so far this season. The Houston, Texas product also leads the Southland Conference in homers, and broke into the NSU record book on Saturday.
Barefield moved into third place in individual season homers when she cranked her 11th home run of the season over the left field wall in game one of the three game series sweep over SFA.
On Sunday, Barefield racked up five RBI on the day, including a three-run home run over the center field wall to give the Lady Demons a 5-0 lead over the Lady Jacks and her 12th homer of the season.
The Lady Demons host conference newcomer Houston Baptist in a three game series beginning on Saturday at three o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond.
