NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr announced that Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College transfer Presley Owens signed to join the 2013-14 women's basketball team.
The 6-1 forward averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game on her way to earning All-American Honorable Mention from the National Junior College Athletic Association. She was also named to the All-Region 23 team, second-team all-state, and Who's Who among American Colleges and Universities.
"We are thrilled to have Presley join our NSU family. She is a great fit for our program and a tremendous student athlete," said Brooke Stoehr. "She has competed at a high level at Mississippi Gulf Coast for Melanie Stone, and we are excited about the experience she will bring to our team."
While at Vancleave High School (Vancleave, Miss.), she was named Mississippi Press Athlete of the Year in 2011 along with district Most Valuable Player. She was an all-district athlete in basketball, volleyball, and softball.
"Presley will bring versatility and a physical presence to our post," said Stoehr. "She brings added depth to our interior for the upcoming season."
"I chose NSU because I felt it was the best all-around fit for me," said Owens. "I will bring a positive attitude and will work hard for this team."
Owens joins six other student-athletes that signed with Northwestern State. Breonna O'Conner of Ville Platte (Ville Platte HS), Robin Richardson of Independence (Ponchatoula HS), Kourtney Pennywell of Shreveport (Southwood HS), Beatrice Attura of McKinney, Texas (Frisco Liberty HS), and Amy Staha of Pflugerville, Texas (Pflugerville HS) signed in November, and Emily Spector of Keller, Texas (Timber Creek HS) signed in April.
