I just finished talking to the weather watchers and the verdict is unanimous: it was hot today!
The morning started with that muggy feel as temperatures were in the low to mid 70s. Winnfield, Esler Airport, and Anacoco reported a low of 71 degrees. In contrast, it was 76 degrees at Aloha, Ville Platte, and the Alexandria Power Plant. The 30-year daily average is 72 degrees.
Afternoon highs were a few degrees warmer than those observed Tuesday. The "hot spots" were Simpson, Anacoco, and Bellwood at 97 while Charles Park, Jonesville, and Natchez, Miss. were the "cool spots" at 92 degrees. As best as I can tell, the heat index peaked near 108. The 30-year daily average is 91 degrees. We fell way short of the record of 104 set in 1930.
Weather watchers reported no rain Wednesday.
The upper-level high will continue to build Thursday; the result will be slightly higher temperatures and continued very low rain chances.
