The heat continued Thursday with thermometers across central Louisiana soared into the 90s. Most locations were 1-3 degrees higher than Wednesday while other sites reported no temperature increase. Thursday's warm spots were Hagewood at 99 degrees and Anacoco and Bellwood with 98 degrees. Natchez, Miss., Charles Park, and Fairfield only managed to hit 92 degrees. Heat indices peaked at between 100 and 108 degrees.
The heat may intensify Friday as a front presses southward through Arkansas. It is common for compressional warming to precede the front and this will bring temperatures up one or two degrees higher than Thursday. No record highs are expected. The front will return temperatures a few degrees lower than normal and that will be a good start to July.
