Small Business Summer

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Summertime can be a slower time for some CenLa businesses.

With children out of school and families on vacation, it's a time for seasonal adjustments.

"Summer is always a little slow for us. Our "J" months January, June, and July are definitely our months that we have to step our game up and bring in new products because our customers are on vacation and just not doing as much with schools not in ," said Bridget Vaughn.

It's a change that doesn't necessarily come as a surprise to business owners, but preparations are made to help attract customers any time of the year.

"We prepare for that. we want to be ahead of the game on that, so we want to make sure we have the items that people are looking for, like your summer time activities. People are going to the lake, they are going boating, they are doing all these fun out door activities, well we want to make sure we have the products here that people are going to be using," said George Reech.

"Sun glasses come out more, hats and stuff. So we shift our displays and stuff as well and also brushing up on our knowledge to make sure that we are current so that way if some one comes in asking for something we know what they need and we can go ahead and jump straight in," said Jessica Alwell.

And, the business owners we spoke with say it's a year-round effort that pays off in the long run.

"It's a very rewarding business because you establish a relationship with customers and you see the same customers year after year and you get to know that person and it is a really great thing," George Reech.
