Economic Impact of Holiday Weekend

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) With a busy holiday weekend officially in the books, Central Louisiana received an economic boost.

More than 75 percent of the hotel rooms available in the Pineville / Alexandria area were filled after a successful holiday weekend.

In addition to multiple fourth of July celebrations, the Pentecostal Camp Grounds 99th District Meeting brought more than 8,000 people to the CenLa area.

Local marketing leaders say the local businesses benefited from the busy weekend.

"I know the Pineville hotels were definitely booked and had a lot of spill over into the Alexandria hotels, but they also went shopping, they went to eat. A lot of the restaurants even stayed open late this past week for them and they were very grateful for that. So we had a lot of other traffic in town other than just holiday traffic," said Kelli West.

The Alexandria / Pineville area has more than 2,300 hotel rooms available to the public each year.
