Texas teen drinking before deadly wreck

Posted: Updated:

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a 16-year-old driving a pickup truck that caused a horrific North Texas crash that killed four people had been drinking beforehand.

Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson on Tuesday updated the investigation into the mid-June crash south of Fort Worth. He says the 16-year-old will likely be charged as a juvenile.

The crash killed the driver of a disabled SUV on the side of the road and three people who had stopped to help her.

Anderson said the driver of the pickup truck's blood-alcohol level was 0.24 percent, or three times the legal limit for drivers 21 and older. He was going as fast as 70 mph at the time of the crash.

He says the driver and others had stolen two cases of beer from a Wal-Mart.
