ALEXANDRIA, La. (News Channel 5)- The Rotary Club of Alexandria hosted the Honorable Judge Dee Drell of the Fifth Circuit Court today.

Judge Drell spoke about the recent effects of sequestration on the judicial branch. The area within the judicial branch feeling the worst of these cuts is federal public defenders system...who represent people in court who can't afford a private lawyer.

Judge Drell also spoke about the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court--a controversial topic in light of the recent NSA leaks.

"Well listen carefully to what I have to say It's probably all somewhat inherent in the process of trying to deal with, trying to keep us safe and also safeguard Americans Constitutional rights. That's the real balance and the test and that's what the issue is," says Drell.

Judge Drell was appointed to the District Court in 2003 by President George H. W. Bush.
