ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office detectives have arrested a Pineville man on multiple drug related charges.

On July 9, detectives followed up on several complaints of a man selling crack cocaine.

Detectives received an anonymous tip that a man named Derrick Talton Jr., 23, was distributing crack cocaine in Alexandria.

RPSO said detectives located and followed Talton to Monroe Street.

Detectives, working with marked RPSO Criminal Patrol Units, initiated a traffic stop on Monroe Street. Talton reportedly tried to flee the scene.

According to RPSO, he was driving recklessly and turned into Sunset Apartments.  He reportedly almost struck a child with his vehicle.

Deputies said they tried to park their vehicles parallel to Talton's in an attempt to block him from exiting the vehicle. Talton tried to force the driver's door open, striking a marked patrol vehicle and then attempting to flee.

Talton was reportedly shot with a taser and taken into custody.

Detectives located more than half an ounce of suspected crack cocaine in Talton's hand.

The vehicle was reportedly towed. Deputies also said he was not the registered owner of the vehicle.

He was charged with possession of CDS II to distribute, flight from an officer, two contempt of court warrants and a failure to pay a fine warrant.

Talton was transported to Rapides Parish Detention Center.

He was later released on $20,250 bond.
