(CBS NEWS) - Sam Mendes is back for more Bond, James Bond.

After stating in interviews that he wouldn't direct the next film in the Bond franchise, it was announced Thursday that he's now confirmed to do just that.

Mendes will helm the currently-untitled 24th James Bond movie, set to be released in U.S. theaters on Nov. 6, 2015, and in the U.K. on Oct. 23. Daniel Craig will return to play the British superspy, the announcement confirmed. "Skyfall" writer John Logan will also be back to pen this next film's screenplay

"I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honor all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time," Mendes said in a statement.

Mendes' "Skyfall" was a smashing success, taking in $1.1 billion worldwide and earning much critical acclaim (along with a Golden Globe and Oscar for Adele, who performed the movie's theme).

Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO of MGM, said in Thursday's announcement: "We are thrilled to reunite the extraordinary talents of director Sam Mendes with our star Daniel Craig for the next great Bond adventure." He added, "As evidenced by the phenomenal success of our last collaboration with EON Productions and Sony, the incredible legacy of this 51-year-old franchise continues to amaze."

Tell us: Are you glad Mendes is returning to the Bond franchise?
