Casting Alexandria

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - For many in Alexandria an open casting call was their first chance at a spot on the big screen. Local talent lined up outside the doors for a chance in "The Aftermath".

The line outside was evidence, Cenla is overflowing with talent.

"You never know, all these people here, just like you picked me out, maybe everybody will get lucky and get their own chance." Said Randy Dubroc.

An open casting call for the gritty drama "The Aftermath" gave local folks a chance at a spot as an extra in the film.

"We wanted to cast authentic people, if you cast actors and you try to make them play someone that's lived in a small southern town for 20 years and maybe they've been on drugs for 10 years, if you cast an actor to do that you're not going to get the same authenticity than if you cast people than live in the environment that know the environment that speak the lingo, all these things." Said Shaun Sanghani.

For the crew, including True Blood star Sam Trammel, filming in Alexandria was important.

"We're shooting in Alexandria because the producer, Shaun Sanghani is from here, and when I first visited, obviously the city has a richness, a history to it that is very exciting to us and we're hoping to exploit, a lot of great locations here." Said Director Tim McCann.

In turn, giving an opportunity of a lifetime to a lucky few.

"For me personally it's a really big deal because I'm a local director and I'm working on getting into the industry as well, so they've been kind enough to give me an incredible opportunity here and help out with great equipment, great casting, so I'm very thankful for that." Said Khayyam Khan.

The Aftermath Crew will be in Alexandria through the week for call backs and plans to start filming on July 29th.
