ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Hello and welcome to this edition of Crystal's Critters.  I'm Crystal Whitman and I have Jeff Stephens and Jillian Donaghey from BARK.  Hello guys.  How are you today?

Oh, pretty good.

We have an active set of pets today. Talk about that for me.

Well, this is Hixson. He was actually found right down the road from here about a year ago at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.  I went and picked him up as a kitten, he was hanging around their dumpster and right underneath the cars in the parking lot there.  He actually is prone to urinary tract infections, so he's a little bit of a special needs cat.  He requires a special food that keeps him from getting those infections.  That food runs roughly at about $30 a month.  As you can see, he's a very friendly, very active cat.  He's good with other cats and in fact he loves to be around other cats.  Apparently he's pretty good with dogs, too.

And speaking of dogs, Jillian, who do you have with you?

This is Buttons. It's like she knew that we were talking about her.  Buttons is a four-month-old puppy.  We took in her mom that was pregnant.  She had nine puppies and Buttons is one of them.  The mom was about 35 pounds, so I don't think that Buttons is going to be a very big dog.  She is all puppy though.  She loves to play, loves attention.  She's a female who is up-to-date on all of her shots that's just looking for a good home.

Alright. It takes special care and attention to adopt a dog.  Can you cover the adoption process for us?

Sure. It's a $200 adoption fee and that covers their spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines. we do three rounds of vaccines for all of our puppies.  If a dog is heart worm positive, we do heart worm treatment prior to the adoption.

And you guys have two raffles coming up. I'm really excited to hear about that. Tell me about them.

Yes. We are raffling off a seven inch tablet and we are raffling off a cherry oak dining room table that was donated by Haverty's.  So, you can buy dollar raffles for either one of these items at the Alexandria Pet Inn or at Long's Preferred Products on Broadway Avenue.

Alright. How can we get in touch with you guys for more information on the adoption process?

You can go to www.barkdogrescue.org and our Facebook is the same as well.  Or, you can email us at longj1003@aol.com

Well, we thank you guys so much for being on the show. I enjoyed having you.  And that wraps up this edition of Crystal's Critters.  Have a good day.
