Arrests made in January arson case

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - RPSO arrest four suspects in arson case.

On January 29, 2013, the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office along with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office responded to 200 block of Durand Road in reference to a residence being on fire. Officials said due to a quick acting Volunteer Firefighter passing the residence and seeing the smoke, the fire was extinguished.  While investigating the scene and collecting evidence, Louisiana State fire Marshal's and RPSO Detectives determined that home owner had been the victim of arson. There were several pieces of evidence collected from the scene and the homeowner was out of town at the time of the incident.

During the joint investigation, officials said four suspects were developed. They were identified as James Stracener and Sandie Stansbury of 6389 Highway 112 Elmer, LA, and Michael Devito and Samantha Stracener of 170 Slayter Nichols Road, Pollock, LA. After a lengthy investigation, Detectives said they discovered James Stracener had paid Samantha Stracener and Michael Devito to burn the victim's residence. All suspects were charged and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

Arrestee: James Stracener, 53, Arrested on July 19. Released on $95,000.00 bond.    

Charges: Simple Arson over $500, Manuf/Poss of an Incendiary Device, Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Trespass.

Arrestee: Sandie Stansbury, 35, Arrested on July 19. Released on $25,000.00 bond.

Charges: Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property under $500.

Arrestee: Michael Devito, 41, Currently still in jail on $95,000.00 bond.

Charges: Simple Arson over $500, Manuf/Poss of an Incendiary Device, Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Trespass.

Arrestee: Samantha Stracener, 29, Currently still in jail on $95,000.00 bond.

Charges: Simple Arson over $500, Manuf/Poss of an Incendiary Device, Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Trespass.
