Lafayette businessman pleads guilty in two separate cases

 LAFAYETTE, La. (KALB News Channel) – A Lafayette man pleads guilty in two separate cases. He has pleaded guilty for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance analogue and to security fraud. This is according to United States Attorney, Stephanie A. Finley.

 On Friday, July 19, Richard Joseph Buswell, 44 pleaded guilty for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance analogue.

He could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison. Three years of supervised release, and a one million dollar fine, and restitution. A sentencing date of May 16, 2014 was set.

Buswell also pleaded guilty on Thursday to a securities fraud case in which he orchestrated an investment scheme that the government contends cost clients $8 million.

Buswell faces up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and restitution for the wire fraud count in this case. The sentencing date in this case has not been set.
