Boo Maddox Gets a Kidney from Mom

Posted: Updated:

ROCHESTER, Minnesota (KALB News Channel 5) - A local boy is recovering from surgery Monday alongside his mother, who donated her kidney today to save her son's life.

Nine-year-old Alexandria native "Lil Boo" Maddox contracted H1N1 almost four years ago, and complications have kept him in and out of hospitals ever since.

Doctors told Boo he needed a new kidney--and his mother Renee was a match.

"I know that either one of us would lay our life down for any one of our kids," says Boo's father, Robert Maddox. "And she's a lot braver than I am, I can tell you. She never flinched. And I can tell you that the power of prayer is phenomenal. We just thank everybody in the world, especially those in Louisiana, that has prayed for us. And I can tell you that those prayers are what's made us through it."

The Maddoxes are in Rochester, Minnesota, where Boo and Renee are recovering from their operations at the Mayo Clinic children's hospital.
