Trains collide, derail in Vivian near South Pine Street

(KTAL -NBC 6) - Two trains collided in Vivian on Tuesday morning, sending both engines off the tracks and at least one person to the hospital.

Officials with the Caddo Sheriff's Department tell NBC 6 News crews at the scene that two southbound KCS trains managed to strike each other, causing the locomotives to jump the tracks.

NBC 6 News crews at the scene report the engines of both trains and three additional cars left the tracks.

The derailment happened in a wooded area off of South Pine Street around 7:40 a.m.

One of the derailed cars was carrying grain, another paper. The contents of the third car have not been disclosed.

Officials with the Caddo Fire Department, Caddo Sheriff's Department and Vivian Police Department are all on scene.

NBC 6 News crews witnessed one person being loaded into an EMS unit. That individual, who did not appear badly injured, was transported to a local hospital.
