POLLOCK, La. (KALB News Channel 5) The "Connect My Louisiana" project was designed to establish educational resources in the rural areas of the state.

"What we really needed was a training center centrally located in Louisiana where we could bring people in and have training's and really have hands on. Because it is one thing when we are out teaching but people can not really use the technology while we are talking to them it's harder for them to adopt the technology," said Valerie Vincent.

The twenty thousand dollar computer training center at Camp Grant Walker will provide free technology courses to the people of Central Louisiana.

"What this will do, will give kids and adults an opportunity to find out what is out there, what they need, and be able to know what they have not been able to experience yet," said William Richardson.

More than five thousand campers participated in the 4H program this summer at Camp Grant Walker.

The 15 computer training facility will be an opportunity for campers to prepare for the future.

"Adding these computers will enhance our ability to teach certain techniques and certain classes with these young people and expose them to something they may not be exposed to in their local communities or schools," said Mark Assign.

"Stepping up to where the culture is taking them is so important. These kiddos have the smarts, they have creativity and the ingenuity. And we are providing them with the technology to be able to move and grow where agriculture takes them," said Candice Carr.

LSU AgCenter leaders say residents of Central Louisiana can take full advantage of the services offered at Camp Grant Walker year round.

"Recent studies show that one and every three households does not have an Internet connection. Whether you have a computer at home or not, you get to use the computers here and really learn to do everything all at the same time," said Valerie Vincent.
