Two arrested for identity theft

VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – A three month theft investigation leads to two arrests.

According to Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office, they arrested 60-year-old Frances Alfursan and 40-year-old Tonya Bass both from Hornbeck for identity theft on August 1.

Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office said, they were contacted in May of 2013, when a report was filed that an 85-year-old woman had begun to receive strange phone calls relating to her bank account and credit card.

The woman said her account had been utilized without her consent.

The VPSO's criminal division issued a subpoena on the accounts and found that $25,000 in transactions had occurred without the woman's consent through 2012 and 2013.

The woman said that she thought it was family members responsible for the transactions.

Further investigation led to Alfursan and Bass.

The women were booked into the Vernon Parish Jail. The women are being charged each with one count of identity theft and one count of exploitation of the infirmed.

The women have both been released on $25,000 bond.
