APD arrest man for burglary

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – An anonymous call leads to the arrest of a suspected burglar.

The Alexandria Police Department said they arrested James Davenport, 53, a homeless man from Alexandria, for vehicle burglary.

Police were dispatched on Aug. 3 to the intersection of second and Murray Street in reference to a black male attempting to break into a vehicle.

Officers said they got to the scene and a man fitting the description or the burglar was running away from the area.

 The suspect, Davenport was allegedly caught with a purse in hand.  APD said they believe Davenport is responsible for breaking into one of other vehicle in the same area.

He was charged with two counts of vehicle burglary, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of distrusting the peace by public intoxication.

Davenport has been booked 22 times with the Rapides Parish Detention Center. He has been arrested for burglary three times in the last three months.

He was taken to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office for booking.

The investigation is ongoing.
