Vernon Parish, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office is asking citizens to be on alert of individuals trying to possibly scam businesses.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office said they have been contacted by several people who are claiming to offer specialized marketing items, advertisements, and credit card machine contracts to business owners.

Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office is advising area residents and business owners to be cautious if approached by these individuals. Before entering into any type of contract, do your homework. Make sure these businesses can provide an occupational license.  Occupational licenses are provided by the parish. They should also be able to provide creditable references.

Any business owners who have recently been approached by these types of companies and who wish to verify the authenticity of the company can contact the Greater Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce at 337- 238-0349 or the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office at 337-238-1311.
