Back To School In Vernon Parish

Posted: Updated:

LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) It was back to school on Friday for students in Vernon Parish.

The start of the new school year brings excitement to the halls of Leesville High School.

"The first day of school is great. We got a whole lot of people here that do not know where they are going, we got a few that do know where they are going. We are all happy to be here and it is great to see some old faces, some new faces, it is exciting," said Michael Wagley.

"Very excited about it is kind of a big episode right now, we have a couple of glitches right now, we are working on them. I think so far everything is going alright," said Mark Freshley.

"The kids are excited, it is just phenomenal, I do not have words to tell you," said Betty Hicks.

More than 800 hundred students filled the campus of Leesville High School Friday morning.

With new students enrolling each year, upperclassmen say there are adjustments that need to be made by everyone.

"It was weird seeing a lot of new faces. I mean all of my old friends that I have not seen all summer, yeah it is really exciting them again," said Michelle Freshley.

"Meeting new people is great to see them, but it is sad to see them go. I think it's hard for them because they get to have different environments that they have to settle into, I think it is real hard for them," said Jamijh James.

With the first day of school in the books, teachers and administrators say they are optimistic about the new school year.

"What can I say man. We got a good year ahead of us, a lot of changes, a new building, we got some good stuff going on," said Michael Wagley.

"We have a few new teachers here and we are looking forward to seeing them perform, a lot of good returning students from last year, we lost a lot of good students. I think it is going to be a good year," said Mark Freshley.

The new school year begins Monday for Natichitoches Parish schools.

Classes begin next Thursday for students in Lasalle Parish.

And on Friday, school bells will ring again in Rapides and Grant Parish.
