History in a Guitar

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - A 232 year old tree is finding new life thanks to a generous gift.

RoyOMartin enlisted the help of Michael Armind to turn the wood from the State Champion Loblolly Pine into a guitar for auction.
The proceeds will go to help fund Louisiana Public Broadcasting.
RoyOMartin says the tree is a look back through the history of the company and the State of Louisiana.

"As you can see there was a lot of growth on the tree until that point and when you talk about our history, because all these tree rings are close together on the out edge, you can look at the history of the organization and everything is sort of running in order from that perspective." Said Raymond Peters.

The Loblolly Pine the guitar was made from stood at 157 feet tall and nearly 13 feet wide when it was cut down in 2011. The tree died in 2009.
