KENNER, La. (AP) - Kenner police have arrested a caretaker from a group home accused of beating a mentally impaired resident with a metal cooking spoon.
Sgt. Brian McGregor tells The Times-Picayune (http://bit.ly/17pcp2l ) the resident suffered three gashes, two of which had to be closed with staples.
McGregor says 56-year-old Sharon Vaughn, of LaPlace, was booked Monday with aggravated battery and cruelty to the infirm. He says the incident took place Sunday.
He says Vaughn and a co-worker were serving lunch to the residents when the victim, a 24-year-old man, wanted more food.
McGregor says the victim allegedly slapped Vaughn on her arm. He says Vaughn then took a 12-inch cooking spoon and allegedly whacked the victim on the head several times, causing the injuries.
It was unclear whether Vaughn has an attorney.
