Sherman's Baked Honey Apple Chicken Breast
Prep time: 15 minutes or less / Total time: 40 – 45 minutes
I'm not going to get TOO specific about the amount (ounces, tsp, etc.) of these ingredients. I was raised in a house that didn't really measure, if you know what I mean! You won't need a ton, because there's such a good blend of flavor in this recipe. Here's what you need:
* Here's something that I do to my chicken and pork BEFORE I season it. If it's needs cleaning, AFTER I clean it, I let it sit in white vinegar (half vinegar, half water mix). A few reasons: it "cleans" the meat, tenderizes…and my dad told me to. Who am I to argue? I've found a few other reasons from other cooks after researching it, as well. *
Rinse chicken, drain and start your seasoning. Add your garlic, Lawry's, basil, and oregano onto chicken. After mixing it into the meat, add a tablespoon of olive oil and mix in. This cuts down on oil or cooking spray that you would usually add into the cooking sheet or Pyrex.
Go ahead and preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Get your favorite skillet and place chicken breasts in for 3 minutes or until it's a golden brown on either side. Place the chicken in your pan or Pyrex (use a little oil to grease the bottom, but you won't need much), and then place your sliced onions, or sprinkle onion powder on top. Surround with Apple Slices.
Honey or Syrup? The recipe I've found calls for Maple Syrup, but it's too sweet for me. I use Honey (Orange Blossom Honey, actually. I found it at Kroger in the organic section).Stir honey and Italian dressing into measuring cup; drizzle mix over chicken.
Place in oven uncovered for 20 – 25 minutes. Heat extra mixture and drizzle a little more over the chicken just before serving.
Enjoy, and thank me later :)
