The week ended on a fine note Friday as temperatures and humidity levels remained below the typical mid-August values.
Everyone I talked to liked the comfortable morning temperatures. Winnfield fell to 62 degrees while Jena and Bellwood reported 63. Thermometers in Ville Platte and Opelousas registered 70 degrees. The 30-year daily average is 72 degrees and the record is 56 set in 1963.
Afternoon highs ranged from the middle 80s to the lower 90s, but low humidity made for a pleasant feel to the air. Natchez, Miss. and Fairfield only saw a high of 84 degrees, but Many and Ville Platte made it up to 91 degrees.
Saturday promises to be another comfortable day.
