NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5) –A man saves his elderly neighbor's home from a burglar by holding him at gunpoint until authorities arrive.

According to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Deputies Office, they have arrested Michael Wayne Howard, 52, of Natchitoches, for breaking into an elderly woman's home on Saturday.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Natchitoches, around 7:40 a.m. in reference to a burglary.  Upon arrival, deputies learned a neighbor saw Howard allegedly breaking into the home. This prompted the man to grab his gun and run to help.

Deputies said the man escorted the burglar out of the woman's home and held him outside until they could arrive.

According to deputies, the woman was not home at the time and currently lives in an assisted living facility.

Howard was transported to Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. He was charged with one count of simple burglary.

Deputies said they recovered a backpack and handbag containing various small items on the scene.

No bond has been set at this time.

Howard was recently released from jail on July 23rd for a prior theft arrest and a probation violation.
