DOTD to host meeting about Jackson St. bridge

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development  will host a meeting to provide information on the upcoming Jackson Street Bridge project..

The meeting will be held Thursday, August 22, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Alexandria City Hall located at 915 Third Street.

Representatives from DOTD and the local governments will be in attendance. 

The Jackson Street Bridge rehabilitation is a $5.4 million project that involves mechanical and electrical rehabilitation and structural deck repairs to the bridge.

DOTD plans to widen the sidewalks and install handrails. The work is set to begin in September 2013 and run through the winter of 2013.

    A slow "farmer's" rain fell across the area today as the area was blasted with tropical moisture to the south. As high pressure setup across the eastern U.S., tropical moisture banked up against it and consolidated across the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. As a trough approached from the west, the high pressure pushed eastward allowing the tropical moisture to finally move northward in bulk.
