NATCHITOCHES, La.(KALB News Channel 5 ) – The search is over for a Natchitoches police officer, who allegedly took a man hostage, then led authorities on a high speed chase.

According to Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office, 34-year-old Robert Barthelemy, a Natchitoches police officer, was arrested in the early morning hours on Wednesday after leading authorities from several parishes, as well as Louisiana State Police, on a high speed chase. However, authorities are still searching for Barthelemy's hostage.

Barthelemy was wanted out of Sabine Parish on a felony aggravated kidnapping warrant.

The warrant is said to have stemmed from a surveillance video recorded by a home owner just east of Many. The video is said to show Barthelemy allegedly taking 25-year-old Tony Procell at gun point from the home.

The incident was said to take place around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, but the home owner did not notify police of the incident until watching the surveillance tape.

Numerous police agencies are searching for Procell in the area of I-49 and State Route 177.

Richardson says Barthelemy's cell phone usage was tracked and eventually led police to him along I-49.

He then led police on a high speed chase early Wednesday morning.  The chase also involved Barthelemy and authorities driving on the wrong side of I-49.

Barthelemy also was said to have initiated an armed stand-off with authorities along 177. The stand-off lasted almost two hours, before he was taken into custody.

Barthelemy is currently being held at the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office.

The Natchitoches Police Department has confirmed that Barthelemy was an officer of NPO. He was said to be a two year veteran of the NPO and was currently on administrative leave.
