Tropical Depression Six has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. As I explained yesterday, there is little chance we should be affected by this storm. Currently a large upper level ridge of high pressure is helping to block any northward turn of the system and the clockwise flow around the high pressure is helping steer Six westward towards Mexico. I will continue to keep an eye on it. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system today. The hurricane hunters may find that it is already a tropical storm upon investigation.
No development is expected within the next 48 hours elsewhere. We are more or less in the peak of hurricane season so we will be paying close attention to the tropics in the coming weeks.
