VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) New Llano man killed in crash was not wearing seatbelt.

Late Sunday night, August 25, a single vehicle crash killed a man from New Llano, La. that was not wearing his seatbelt. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:20 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 1211 south of US Hwy 171. The crash involved a 2009 Hyundai, driven by 39-year-old Brian Santana. The Hyundai was southbound on LA Hwy 1211 when Santana lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. Police said Santana was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police said they want to take this opportunity to inform and remind motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Troop E Troopers have investigated 29 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 30 fatalities.
