Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office makes theft arrests

VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Two arrests made during investigation by the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office. 

On August 30, 2013 the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Dakota Freeman Johnson, age 23, of Weirgate, Texas and Terri Sable Cryer, age 18, of Evans, Louisiana. Sheriff Sam Craft said the arrests are secondary to the initial VPSO arrest which occurred on August 27, 2013. 

On August 26, 2013 the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Newton County Texas Sheriff's Office regarding a request for assistance in apprehending Johnson and Cryer. According to Sheriff Craft, arrangements were made for VPSO Detectives and Deputies to serve Newton County warrants on the suspects at a residence in the Evans Community. The operation was to take place simultaneously with the execution of search warrants at residences in Jasper and Burkeville, Texas.

Sheriff Craft said Johnson and Cryer were taken into custody without incident at a residence located on Roland Mitcham Road in the Evans Community. Each was initially booked into the VPSO jail on Newton County Warrants for Burglary of a Habitation with no bond. VPSO reported that during the course of the investigation it was determined that the stolen property recovered at the residence on Roland Mitcham Road was valued in excess of  $50,000.00.

Warrants were issued by VPSO and Johnson and Cryer were charged additionally with one count of Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and one count of Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Bond on the two additional charges was set at $7,500.00 for each suspect. VPSO said the joint investigation into this matter is ongoing.
