A HOT END TO THE WEEK

Posted: Updated:

It's Friday and the heat continues.

The mornings continue to be pleasant for the most part. Winnfield and Oakdale reported lows of 66 degrees while Hagewood in Natchitoches Parish was the warm spot with a low of 73 degrees. The daily average is 70 degrees and the record is 57 set in 1986.

During the afternoon, haze mixed with sunshine and clouds and temperatures ranged through the 90s and even into triple digit territory. Bellwood reported a high of 101 degrees and was followed closely by Simpson with 100 degrees. Opelousas and Charles Park were the "cool" spots with highs of 92 degrees. The daily average is 93 degrees and the record is 108 set in 2000.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Great Heat Wave of 2000 began setting a series of daily, monthly, and all-time record high maximum temperatures on this date. On August 31, 2000, the temperature would soar to 109 degrees, tying the all-time record. The first four days of September would see all-time monthly high temperature records established.

The weekend will be hot, but not that bad! Have a safe one.
