Young Achiever's Spotlight

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)- After a summer break, the 'Young Achiever's Spotlight' is back in session. This week, News Channel 5's Rachael Penton introduces us to a rodeo champion from Buckeye Junior High.

This is Buckeye Junior High School student Kyle Clark. He's a rodeo champion that comes from a long line of competitors.

"We've done this my whole life. My mom did it too. She's always loved horses so my family did it and it's just trying to keep it going," says Kyle's mother Renee White.

This fourteen year old cowboy has a long list of skills...

"Team rope. Tie down. Ribbon rope and goat tie," says Kyle Clark.

But his specialty is calf roping and this past year has been a winning season for Clark.

"He came out second in the second go-around and then he won the short go. He made it to nationals by three-quarters of a point," says White.

Clark placed fourth in the state championship in Lake Charles, which earned him a spot at the national finals in Gallup, New Mexico.

"It felt pretty good to make it, because not everybody gets a chance to make it to Gallup," says Clark.

Clark competed against other young cowboys from across the world.

"There were over 1200 kids there from all over the United States, Canada, Australia," adds White.

He racked up plenty of points...placing in the top ten in the world for calf roping, something that Kyle's mother says is a result of all of his hard work.

"I don't have to ask him to go practice. I don't have to tell him to practice, because he's doing it," says White.

Clark is about to begin his new year of competitions.

"Well I would like to go out there and make it to first place at every rodeo," says Clark.

And, he's setting new goals for the upcoming year.

"To win the state this year in the calf roping."

Goals that will help this young achiever rope his dream.

"He's told me from the get go that he wants to make it to the NFR, to the National Finals Rodeo. It's the cowboys dream," adds White.
