Tropical Depression #7 has just developed from disturbance 97-L. Data from a recent recon mission indicates the presence of a closed circulation and hence the upgrade in status.
TD #7 is located about 130 miles south of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Movement is toward the NW at 9 mph. The maximum sustained wind is near 35 mph. TD #7 is expected to continue moving NW through Thursday and a turn to the NNW is expected by Friday. Conditions favor gradual strengthening and TD #7 may become a tropical storm by Friday. In response, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Puerto Rico and the eastern part of the Dominican Republic. A trough in the jet stream is expected to keep this system away from the U.S. East Coast.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic Basin, there are no systems showing signs of development.
I'll post another update tomorrow.
